Eliel David Martínez Julián

Eliel David Martínez Julián develops a multidisciplinary artistic practice in which painting, textile, installation and action become tools for investigating cultural identities, symbolic territories and forms of shared memory.

Through a visual language populated by animal figures, vegetal elements, hybrid presences and layered surfaces, Martínez Julián constructs poetic narratives that move between myth and everyday life, individual recollection and collective experience. His works emerge from a continuous reflection on the idea of traversal, creating connections between different geographies, traditions and systems of belief. Drawing from Mexican popular culture, indigenous traditions and migrant experiences, he develops works that function as emotional and symbolic maps, where images become carriers of memory and transformation.

His artistic research is deeply rooted in the relationship between landscape, community and ritual practices. Through dense pictorial compositions and symbolic imagery, he investigates themes of belonging, displacement and cultural transmission, allowing different worlds and temporalities to coexist within the same visual space. Animal symbolism, popular spirituality and vernacular traditions become recurring elements through which he reflects on the continuity of cultural memory across generations and territories.

Martínez Julián’s practice is characterized by an expanded understanding of painting, conceived not as a closed image but as a relational space capable of generating encounters and dialogue. His works often incorporate references to domestic rituals, food traditions, collective histories and forms of shelter, transforming the exhibition space into a site of exchange and shared experience. Through a process of layering, accumulation and symbolic transformation, his artistic language creates connections between the Mesoamerican world and other cultural landscapes, revealing unexpected affinities and fostering new forms of collective imagination.
